VIDEO: An Elite Comfort Solutions employee was transported to the hospital via helicopter after he was trapped and injured in a compression machine Wednesday afternoon. Conover Fire Chief Mark Hinson said the man suffered severe leg trauma in both legs after he fell from the top of a machine that compresses foam rubber while he cleaned the machine. The man’s legs were trapped between a chain mat and rollers, which can compress at more than 16,000 pounds per square inch, according to Hinson. “I’d say he was trapped for about 45 minutes to an hour,” Hinson said. Hinson complimented the Elite Comfort Solutions maintenance personnel for helping Conover firefighters assess the situation and find the best rescue method. Firefighters cut the chain and rushed him to the helicopter with Catawba County EMS staff.
