On the 18th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, a local gym and area firefighters will play a fitting tribute to the 412 emergency workers — including 343 firefighters — who were among 2,977 total people killed that day.
All day on Wednesday, Morganton’s Workout Anytime will host its third annual 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb in remembrance and honor of all the first responders who climbed the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York on Sept. 11, 2001.
Local firefighters from six area departments will suit up and climb 110 flights of stairs on the gym’s Stairmaster machines. The public, including both members and non-members of the gym, is invited to stop by and climb, as well, using weighted vests and uniforms.
