Town officials have announced its new top firefighter to replace Chief Tim Guffey, who retired in July. Loren Cone has been hired as fire chief and will start work with the Knightdale Fire Department in the coming days, the town announced Wednesday. Cone is currently assistant fire chief at the Cary Fire Department, where he has worked for 21 years. As assistant chief, he focused on administration and training, according to a town press release. He has 30 years experience in fire service. “Loren’s extensive knowledge and expertise in fire service make him the ideal candidate to lead our department as Knightdale continues to grow,” Town Manager Bill Summers said in a statement. “He is a solid leader whose reputation precedes him and will be an excellent addition to our organization.” Cone’s salary will be $105,064.
