A local firefighter has organized a rally in Lexington on Saturday to show support for police and other first responders.
Mitch Garmer is a full-time firefighter for the City of Winston-Salem and a volunteer fireman for the Churchland Volunteer Fire Department. He said he wanted to organize a public demonstration to show police, firefighters, EMTs and other first responders that they are appreciated for the work they do on a daily basis and to recognize the challenges they have faced recently. “This is to support law enforcement and all first responders,” Garmer said. “It all really started with social media. I was sitting around and a bunch of police officers and first responders were posting videos and comments on how hard it is to be in law enforcement right now, and all the struggles they are going through.”
