Rain continued to fall throughout the mountains and in Rutherford County on Wednesday. People living at a campground in Rutherfordton were forced to evacuate Tuesday as water from a nearby creek began to rise. Seven-year-old Lee was home with his dad when it happened. “There was water everywhere down there. Even down there," Lee said pointing. "There was, like, a big pond way down there, and it was filled with water and all the water came up over here." A few miles away, a roof on a vacant building in downtown Rutherfordton collapsed Tuesday afternoon. “We responded to check it out and noticed that a hole had developed in the roof from the rain. Possibly knocked the floor down and that’s what caused the window to bust,” Fire Chief Brandon Harrill said. Fire crews set up a safe zone.
