An Alamance County firefighter who also served with the sheriff's office died from coronavirus-related complications Saturday night. Tim Morton and his son, Dustin Morton, tested positive for COVID-19 in September, Dustin Morton said. He noted they both had mild symptoms during that time. But Tim Morton then went into the hospital with COVID-pneumonia, followed by post-COVID lung fibrosis, Dustin Morton said. Hospital workers tried to rehabilitate his lungs, but there was too much scarring and they were working to get him on a transplant list. Dustin Morton said his father went back into the hospital on Dec. 3 and didn't return home. Family and friends threw him a parade Saturday to show him their support and love, not knowing it would be his last day. "He touched the lives of so many people," Dustin Morton said.
