Winston-Salem police said a man was found dead after a fire Monday. The fire happened in a townhouse in the 5300 block of Summit Heights Drive near South Peace Haven Road. According to a news release, police officers were called to the scene to assist the fire department around 11 p.m. Firefighters found the remains of Paul Rutledge, 76, in his townhouse, police said. Everyone else in the building made it out before the fire department arrived, fire officials said. The fire department shared video of the fire on Twitter and said three people who lived in the building have been displaced. The fire was in the back of the townhouse and a fire official on the scene said it took about 15 minutes to put out. Investigators said they did not yet know how the fire started but do not believe it was set intentionally.
