An early morning fire closed South Main Street for a few hours on Thursday, according to Granite Quarry Fire Chief Jake Chambers. Around 1:40 a.m., the Granite Quarry Fire Department got a call for a working structure fire on South Main Street near Yost Farm Road. Responding firefighters found a 20-by-30-foot detached garage on fire. Chief Chambers said there were welding tanks inside the garage that exploded before crews arrived. Firefighters were able to control the fire in about 15 minutes and reported that no one was hurt. The chief also told Channel 9 that the building is a complete loss. A total of five departments responded, including Granite Quarry Fire Department, Salisbury City Fire Department, Faith Fire Department, Rockwell Rural Fire Department, and Rockwell City Fire Department, according to Chief Chambers.
