There were no injuries reported during a house fire late Tuesday morning in the Bur Oak Subdivision off Nine Mile Road in Newport. Multiple fire departments responded to the fire at 113 Casey Lane, and was able to contain the blaze in about 25 minutes, according to Newport Deputy Fire Chief James Ainsworth. “I was the first one on scene and there was smoke coming from a couple of windows and the eves,” he said. “Fire also blew out part of the roof.” Four people were at home at the time of the fire, and Chief Ainsworth said all of them got out safely. He did not have the name of the homeowner at the time of this posting. He said most of the fire damage was contained to the second floor of the house, although the first floor sustained water damage. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
