VIDEO: After a fire, you will likely see fire investigators at the scene, but in Davidson County, that team has a new employee to help them figure out the cause of fires.
K-9 Boone is the newest member of the fire marshal’s team and has already made an impact on the community.
A year ago, they started the process to find the right fit. Before Boone came along, the Fire Marshal’s Office would have to use K-9s from other departments across the state. But now, a K-9 is right here and ready to respond. Boone trains every day multiple times a day. His nose is in search of what caused the fire.
“We’ll burn things to simulate a fire scene, and we will place ignitable liquid on it, and he will work overtop of it and smell it … When he smells it, he will indicate,” said John Webster, a Davidson County deputy fire marshal and Boone’s handler.
