Three firefighters were hurt in a house fire in north Charlotte early Thursday morning, the Charlotte Fire Department said.
The blaze was first reported around 2:45 a.m. on Grimes Street, which is just off North Graham Street. Firefighters said flames were showing from the house when they arrived, and shortly after their arrival, a second alarm was called to bring in more help to put out the fire.
While firefighters worked to control the blaze, a “mayday” call was initiated and a firefighter was removed from the house. Three were taken to the hospital. Charlotte Fire Chief Reginald Johnson said none of the firefighters’ injuries were considered life-threatening. Johnson said three residents and a pet were able to escape the house uninjured.
Firefighters controlled the fire in about an hour.
