VIDEO: Plenty of folks in our community have a story about how they’ve been helped by a first responder. On Sunday morning, a local church decided to give back to some hometown heroes. Joy was in the air at Ishi Pentecostal Temple in Winston-Salem, where the congregation held a special appreciation service for the city’s many first responders. "It was our desire and our passion to make sure that we took the verbal and transitioned it to something that was tangible and something that was meaningful," said Pastor Randy Myers. From Winston-Salem police to the fire department to the sheriff’s office, members of numerous departments found themselves in the pews. "They treated us like we were kings and queens," said Winston-Salem police Chief William Penn. "So, we're honored to live in a community that respects what we do."
