VIDEO: One person is injured after a fire broke out in a multi-story apartment building in downtown Raleigh early this morning, according to the fire department. Firefighters were called to Sir Walter Apartments, which houses low-income seniors, in the 400 block of Fayetteville Street around 1:40 a.m. Monday. The blaze occurred in a unit on the seventh floor, the Raleigh Fire Department said, and was extinguished about 15 minutes after crews arrived on scene. One person was found unresponsive in that unit and was taken to the hospital. Dozens of other residents in the building, which has age and income restrictions, had to evacuate. Crews continued to monitor residents and widespread smoke after the fire was put out.
