Firefighters douse mulch fire in Swannanoa

PHOTOS: Firefighters battled a mulch fire in Swannanoa overnight Thursday into Friday morning. According to a Facebook post by Swannanoa Fire & Rescue, crews responded to the US-70 and Warren Wilson College Road area at around 9:15 p.m. Thursday for a reported mulch fire. Crews battled the blaze through the night until about 4:30 a.m. Friday, when the fire department declared the fire was out. Swannanoa Fire & Rescue shared a YouTube video of the effort that went into battling the blaze, including a water supply operation for the main engine that was fighting the fire. Swannanoa Fire & Rescue said crews dumped at least 200,000-300,000 gallons of water. They advised light brown water may be present in the water system in the general area of the fire.
