PHOTOS: Morehead City firefighters and other crews battled a storage unit fire that broke out Friday evening.
The Town of Morehead City posted on Facebook that crews responded around 5:30 p.m. to the fire on Boyd Lane. When crews arrived, they found the unit completely engulfed in flames. As of 8 p.m. Friday evening, officials said it had been contained. Crews remained on the scene working the area to make sure there were no hot spots.
In the 8 p.m. update, officials said due to the nature of the material in the storage building, fire crews from Morehead City said smoke would remain visible overnight and likely throughout Saturday.
A 9 p.m. update stated crews would remain at the scene overnight and throughout Saturday. It also stated lumber and plywood were stored there.
