VIDEO: A man going through a mental health crisis was brought to safety early Friday morning, thanks to the efforts of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police officers and Charlotte firefighters. The situation happened on the Briar Creek Road bridge over Independence Boulevard just before 2 a.m. Radio dispatches between the crews painted a frightening picture of the scene. “All units be advised CFD is on scene and that they have possible cameras and are observing the subject on the opposite side of the railing,” a dispatcher said over emergency radios. Officials closed Independence Boulevard in the area while they worked to get the man down. Police confirmed that a man threatened to harm himself, but that he was safely removed from the bridge and taken to the hospital.
