Crews with the State Road Volunteer Fire Department said they worked to put out an early morning structure fire in Surry County. Officials said the fire happened around 4:40 a.m. on the 100 block of Elk Acres Lane. Surry County EMS said they were also called to the location after reports of the "fire with entrapment." When EMS arrived, they said the person was free from the home and treated without being taken to the hospital. Officials said the Surry County Fire Marshal's Office was called in to investigate. The State Road Volunteer Fire Department said they received automatic aid from Mountain Park Vol. Fire Department, CC Camp Volunteer Fire Department, and Pleasant Hill Volunteer Fire and Rescue. They also said the Red Cross also provided aid.
