Cat killed, firefighter injured during fire in Myrtle Grove

New Hanover County Fire Rescue crews responded to a house fire in Myrtle Grove Tuesday morning, May 14. According to the New Hanover County representative, fire crews worked to extinguish the fire in the 6100 block of Meadowgrove Loop. Officials confirmed that only one person was home at the time, and that the family had three cats, one of which died in the fire. A NHCFR firefighter was injured but is in stable condition. One of the residents said she smelled something weird last night. The damage is mostly inside the home and the top window is broken. There is no word on what started the fire yet, and the NHC representative says that it is still under investigation.
