Crews responded to a 3-alarm fire involving two buildings in uptown Charlotte Thursday morning.
According to the Charlotte Fire Department, the fire happened on Margaret Brown Street around 2 a.m.
A second alarm was called 10 minutes later, then a 3rd alarm at 2:20 a.m. At 2:25 a.m., all firefighters were ordered to evacuate the building.
According to crews, the fire started in a vacant structure that was under renovation. That building was completely destroyed and collapsed. Two other townhome-style buildings were attached and occupied.
Investigators determined the fire was intentionally set.
It was brought under control at 3:20 a.m.
Six residents were evaluated by MEDIC and one of them was taken to an area hospital. No firefighters were injured.
