The Midwest Theater notified the public this week that work is underway on its marquee after an incident this week.
On March 19, just as the afternoon "Church Basement Ladies" show was ending, the smell of smoke was detected in the old lobby, Billy Estes, executive director, said in a press release. Staff members and volunteers assembled to ensure an orderly exit of patrons while the situation was assessed.
Thanks to the quick response from the Scottsbluff Fire Department, Fire Marshal Anthony Murphy and Mike Ferguson of Ferguson Signs, a small electrical fire involving the historic neon lighting was located inside the marquee overhang, and the problem was resolved before any significant damage occurred.
