First responders across the Omaha metro received several calls to treat fireworks-related injuries throughout the evening on the 4th of July. Just after 9 p.m., paramedics rushed to North 60th and Pinkney streets. Officials on scene said a 14-year-old boy was hit in the leg by a firework. First responders took him to the hospital to treat minor injuries. Later, around midnight, crews responded to another report of injuries caused by fireworks near 46th Street and Butler Avenue. Officials on scene said one person suffered serious injuries and was taken to the hospital. If you want to get rid of unused fireworks, July 11 is annual amnesty day. From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., citizens can also drop off unwanted firearms and ammunition. Authorities will collect the items at Seymour Smith Park near 72nd and Harrison streets, or the Omaha Fire station on North 103rd Street.
