VIDEO: On Saturday the Bennet Fire Department held its annual pancake feed, after not holding it last year due to the coronavirus pandemic. The station had set up games, station tours and truck tours for families. There was even a helicopter landing by Star Care Medical Transport and a piece of steel and concrete from ground zero on display. Bennet is a small station that relies solely on volunteer firefighters. “It makes it difficult, we carry our pages twenty-four, seven,” says Bennet Fire Chief, Tim Norris. “We also get text messages on our phones, so when the page goes off if you can leave work you leave work. If you’re home mowing the lawn, you turn off your mower and come.” The pancake feed was pay as you wish, with a goal of raising $30,000 for the station and its 23 volunteer service members.
