Omaha Fire Department responded to a house fire near 45th and Franklin streets around 1 a.m. Monday. Officials said someone inside the home woke up to the smell of smoke and called authorities before making it out safely. Paramedics on scene said that person was later taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation. Firefighters were also able to rescue a dog that was inside the home. Investigators said that dog was expected to be OK. When crews arrived they were able to get in and knock out the fire located in the kitchen. Firefighters said the fire was small, making it easier for them to put it out quickly. Omaha Fire Department said the fire investigators were working to confirm what caused the fire.
