Officials are estimating that four goats were killed in the barn fire near South Sioux City on Thursday. According to the South Sioux City Fire Department, they were called to 1488 Lake Avenue at around 8:24 a.m. on Thursday. When officials arrived at the scene, they found a barn that was fully engulfed as well as a two-story home that was also involved in the fire. Officials told KCAU 9 that the home caught fire due to the high winds. The South Sioux City Fire Department, along with the Dakota City Fire Department and Homer Fire Department, were able to bring the fire under control in approximately 40 minutes. A lack of water supply and high winds made combatting the fire difficult, officials said. One civilian was treated for non-life-threatening issues. Two firefighters had to be treated for exhaustion with one being taken to a hospital.
