Several area fire departments responded to a wildfire Thursday afternoon in rural Saunders County, about seven miles northwest of Yutan.
The fire was about a mile long, and consumed about 80 acres, but firefighters were able to get it out quickly, fire officials said.
Preliminary reports indicate that the fire ignited after winds whipped up a brush fire someone started two days ago and had put out only with water.
Fire crews from Yutan, Mead, Ithica, Cedar Bluffs, Wahoo, Colon, Ashland, Waterloo, Valley, and rural Fremont responded to the call.
They also had help from local residents.
“They were helping us disc the fields, taking over some of the hot spots and also helping put a stop on it at the head,” said Matt Thompson with Yutan Fire.
No structures burned, and no major injuries were reported.
