VIDEO: Firefighters were battling a blaze at a restaurant Thursday afternoon in Mineola and nearby roads have been closed. The inferno broke out on Jericho Turnpike around 1 p.m. Thursday. The turnpike was closed from Mineola Boulevard to Nassau Boulevard, Nassau County police said. Willis Avenue was also closed from Jericho Turnpike to Washington Avenue. Video at the scene showed firefighters pouring water on the blaze at Piccola Bussola from multiple ladder trucks. Heavy orange flames and thick black smoke could be seen shooting out of the building. A spokesman for the restaurant told Patch on Thursday early indications are no one was in the restaurant when it ignited. The cause and exact origin of the blaze weren't immediately clear. Owner Tony Lubrano was not in the building at the time.
