Around 11 p.m. on Tuesday night a large fire on West Bergen Rd. resulted in several calls from neighbors who reported a fully involved blaze. Upon arriving at the scene fire crews encountered a fully engulfed barn with flames towering over a two-story house. Bergen Fire Chief Kevin Bruton reported that the barn was a total loss.
“There is nothing left,” said Bruton. “Definitely not going to be able to salvage anything out of there.”
By the time crews arrived at the scene the fire had been burning for some time, resulting in the structure falling to the ground prior to firefighters’ arrival. “I would say (the fire was burning) 30 minutes maybe (more) before we got here,” said Bruton. “When things like that go up, they go up quick... Sometimes even when you see (the fire) it’s too late by the time everyone gets here.”
