Crews battled an apartment fire in Chili Thursday night. The Monroe County Sheriff's Office along with Chili and Gates Fire Departments responded to the Blueberry Hill Apartment complex around 5:15 p.m. for the report of a fire. Upon arrival, deputies say they were met with an active fire with people trapped inside the apartment. Firefighters were able to quickly enter the apartment building and extinguish the fire. All residents were able to get out safely and without injuries. Crews were able to contain the fire to the kitchen area of one of the units. However, adjoining units did suffer smoke and water damage. The Red Cross is currently assisting residents with temporary housing. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
