Three vacant houses caught fire within two hours overnight on Syracuse’s South Side, including two homes on the same street.
One Syracuse firefighter was injured fighting the first of the three blazes, all of which happened at homes no more than half a mile apart.
The Syracuse Fire Department has battled six major fires at homes in the city since Saturday. Four of the houses were vacant. Monday’s first fire happened 12:47 a.m. at 1304 South Ave.
When the first crews arrived, heavy flames were coming from the 2 1/2-story house, firefighters said.
It took over 30 minutes to put out the fire. One firefighter was treated at Upstate University Hospital for minor burns, firefighters said.
The second fire was reported by a passerby at 2:23 a.m. on Glenwood Avenue — half a mile away from the South Avenue fire.
