A fire broke out in an Ithaca apartment building on Lake Street around 1:00 pm Sunday, causing significant damage and leading to one hospitalization. The Ithaca Fire Department, supported by units from Lansing, Newfield, and Cayuga Heights, responded to the scene after smoke was spotted emerging from the building’s roof. Firefighters managed to locate and extinguish the blaze, which originated in the ceiling of a third-floor bedroom. Due to the severity of the fire, additional resources were called in under a third alarm request. One resident was transported to the hospital by Bangs Ambulance for treatment.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Lake Street was temporarily closed to facilitate emergency response and reopened at 2:15 p.m.
