On May 4, Cypress Creek area voters will decide on a proposed 1 percent sales tax increase for sections within the Cypress Creek Fire Department service area that do not already implement an 8.25 percent sales tax. Cypress Creek Fire Department, which was absorbed into Harris County Emergency Services District No. 13, plans to use revenue generated by the additional 1-cent-per-dollar to establish a fire station in the southern part of the district. Although Cypress is in unincorporated Harris County, the community has traits of an urban area including the need for fast emergency services to cover a large population. The new location would be the department’s fifth fire station and could provide better coverage of the area’s growing neighborhoods.
