Webb County Judge Tano Tijerina on Monday announced that he has brought on Steve Landin as the county’s emergency management coordinator. Previously Tijerina had been acting in this role with the help of an emergency management specialist, neither of whom were certified by FEMA, according to county records. Landin retired May 15 as the City of Laredo’s fire chief and emergency management coordinator after 30 years with the fire department. He said he was considering several other job opportunities in the private and public sphere. He had applied for the open assistant city manager position with the City of Laredo as well. At a Webb County Commissioners Court meeting last Monday, commissioners voted to permanently fund the emergency management coordinator position for $40,000 for the rest of their fiscal year, which ends Sept. 30.
