Crews take quick action to extinguish Hurricane motorhome fire

Crews tackled a Hurricane City motorhome fire Saturday afternoon that left one with minor burns. Authorities of Hurricane Valley Fire & Rescue said that units responded to a fire involving a motorhome, another trailer, and other unspecified objects at 1 p.m. on April 20. The blaze spread fast and had reached a quarter of an acre by the time fire personnel arrived on the scene. Firefighters worked quickly to control the situation and extinguish the flames. When all was said and done, officials reported that one person sustained minor burn injuries but denied medical treatment. No firefighters were injured. Due to the remote location of this blaze, Hurricane Fire personnel had to shuttle water to the area. The origin point and cause of the fire remain under investigation.

Vineyard to get firehouse, pending City Council approval

Vineyard City, which has seen substantial growth over the past few years, will be getting a firehouse within the next year, something the growing city has been lacking. City Manager Eric Ellis said Vineyard still will be contracting with the Orem Fire Department, which also services Lindon, but the new firehouse will allow for firefighters to be in a central location. According to a city Facebook post, the firehouse will be located in the Cottonwoods neighborhood near 300 West. Ellis said having the firehouse in the city will be a great “community builder” and will improve emergency response time. “This will improve response times greatly and really just get them to be part of our community,” he said. The firehouse will be a temporary location for the next five to 10 years and will consist of a residential home for the firefighters and a large detached garage for a fire truck and ambulance.

Thousands participate in annual ‘Great Utah ShakeOut’ earthquake drill

VIDEO: Drop! Cover! Hold on! There is no time for hesitation.”Yes, we do live in earthquake country. Earthquakes happen here,” said Wade Mathews, public information officer for the Utah Division of Emergency Management. The Great Utah ShakeOut stretched across the entire state, including at the Utah Capitol with the Division of Emergency Management. On the day-to-day, members of the Utah Division of Emergency Management are the ones who help dispatch emergency response in emergencies like earthquakes. They, too, need to know what to do and prepare on their end to help keep us all safe. Practice makes perfect. One thing Mathews said you can do to prepare for an earthquake is to make sure you have an out-of-state emergency contact who can relay info back and forth between family members if separated.
