A man is in critical condition after a small fire burned up a room at a Motel 6 in Salt Lake City on Sunday. According to Salt Lake City Fire Department Battalion Chief Richard Boden, fire crews were initially called to a report of multiple small fires inside one unit with a barricaded person at the Motel 6 on 1990 W. North Temple St. Upon arrival, firefighters found some smoke coming from the unit, made forcible entry and recovered one unconscious male. The fire was extinguished quickly and the man was sent to the University of Utah hospital in critical condition. Boden told 2News that the building was okay, but the room sustained minor heat and smoke damage. Police assisted fire crews with the incident. The cause of the fire is unknown. The incident is still under investigation.
