Man severely burned after explosion at Tooele City home, arson investigators called in

Firefighters in Tooele City responded to a report of an explosion at a home on the city’s west side Thursday afternoon. Witnesses reported a man was burned in what appeared to be large explosion in the garage of the home at 1020 West 880 South. According to Tooele City Fire Captain Bucky Whitehouse, a man was in the garage when something triggered an explosion. The victim suffered severe burns and was flown by medical helicopter to the University of Utah Hospital’s burn unit. Whitehouse said the man was working with propane when it accidentally triggered the explosion. He added there was nothing initially suspicious about the fire. Whitehouse said Tooele City Fire has requested help from arson investigators with the Unified Fire Authority to investigate the scene.
