The return home to Utah from California was bittersweet for Unified Fire Authority Wildland Division Chief Dominic Burchett. He said it was difficult to leave his family to help battle the fires in California but it was especially a hardship for him because it was the first time in his role as chief since his older brother, Draper Fire Battalion Chief Matt Burchett, died last year actively battling wildfires in the Golden State. Dominic was among the firefighters from eight Utah departments who arrived back in Utah on Tuesday afternoon after providing extinguishing efforts with wildfires in California. The original two-week deployment was cut short with the Easy Fire being contained over the weekend. With the Maria Fire also nearly fully contained, the 40 firefighters were able to pack-up and return to the Beehive State.
