PHOTO: A lightning strike caused a fire to break out just east of Beaver. The Skull Flat 2 Fire started on the second of October just seven miles east of Beaver. Lightning was stated to be the cause of the fire. The fire is burning in mixed conifer, aspen and mahogany. Currently there are no closures and all trails and roadways are open. Crews are using this fire to their advantage and have been successful in burning approximately 50 acres of heady dead and down timber. This will reduce excess fuel loading and will help restore the area to a properly functioning condition. Please be aware that firefighters will be working in the Hell Hole area. If weather conditions are favored, additional burning will continue throughout the week. Currently containment of the fire is at zero percent.
