VIDEO: The 90-year-old homeowner of the only property destroyed in the Knolls Fire said it is a huge loss - not only to her family - but to many others in the community. The home was the site of holiday dinners, Easter egg hunts, and large community parties. Now, all of it is burned. The owner, Pauline Hailes, said nothing could be salvaged.
“It was kind of overwhelming to see that big home, down to nothing but ash,” said Hailes. Hailes and her husband bought the house in the late 80s. She said it was their escape. They used it for family events, church parties, even weddings. Hailes says her whole family is devastated. She said it was a very special place for husband, Jack, who died two years ago. It was their place to get the kids and grandkids all together.
“It’s a big loss for everybody, because there were so many people that knew of it, and enjoyed it.”
