VIDEO: The fire is under control, but crews are still in the area to watch for hot spots. Firefighters called in air support on Monday afternoon after a fire broke out east of Salt Lake City. It's been named the Connecticut Fire. Flames sparked in Dry Canyon, according to a public information officer for the Salt Lake City Fire Department. That's due east of Popperton Park, the University of Utah and Shriner's Children's Hospital, as well as homes. The fire broke out just before 7 p.m. Monday. As of 7:51 p.m., it's been mapped at approximately 10 acres, according to state fire officials. Structures are threatened and residents of two homes were ordered to evacuate. As of 8:40 p.m. Monday, state fire officials said the threat to structures has been "mitigated." Residents of the two evacuated homes are allowed back, but 12 homes remain on pre-evacuation notice "as a precaution."
