MountainStar Healthcare broke ground Monday on a new freestanding emergency room in southern Salt Lake County aimed to address the area's rapid growth.
The facility will become the first freestanding ER in Herriman, at 5073 W. Herriman Rose Blvd. (13300 South).
The Herriman Emergency Center will be part of Lone Peak Hospital, which is based in Draper, and will provide around-the-clock care to those who live and work in surrounding cities including Riverton, South Jordan and West Jordan, MountainStar officials said on Monday.
The ER will be accessible from area thoroughfares including 11400 South, 12300 South and Bangerter Highway. Officials say it will "help paramedics respond faster to service calls and allow ambulances to return to service in the community quicker."
