Seven people were rescued from the York River off Croaker Landing Thursday, including two people who fell into the water after their canoe capsized, according to James City County Fire Department battalion chief Al Catlett. Just before 12 p.m., James City County Fire Department, James City-Bruton Volunteer Fire Department and York County Department of Fire and Life Safety responded to a 911 call reporting several canoes in distress on the York River off Croaker Landing, Catlett said. When fire crews arrived, they found a group of 11 people in several canoes, one of which had capsized, which stranded two people in the water, Catlett said.
