After more than six months of training, Fauquier’s newest class of first responders will graduate from recruit academy Friday night at Kettle Run High School.
Stephanie Lewis, 23, a recruit who lives near Delaplane, sounds eager to join one of the county’s 10 fire and/or rescue stations.
“I got into this solely because I like helping others,” Ms. Lewis explained last week during a day of simulations at the county fire/rescue training center at 167 W. Shirley Ave. in Warrenton. “I want to be there for others on some of the worst days of their lives.”
The Fauquier County Department of Fire, Rescue & Emergency Services employs 120, including 112 who run calls. It has 12 females in uniform, including Battalion Chief Natasha Lorenzen.
