Firefighters and paramedics from Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department Station 30 in Merrifield and Station 18 in Falls Church recently taught Inova/Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) medical students about the principles and capabilities of pre-hospital medical and trauma care. Fire crews demonstrated a variety of equipment and the capabilities of each. Medic Unit 430 demonstrated all the critical intervals in the chain of survival from the 911 call to a patient’s being taken to the emergency room of a hospital. The training was part of the “Introduction to Emergency Medical Services” portion of the VCU School of Medicine’s medical-student orientation.
