A Stafford County fire engine ran off the road. A crew from station 14 on Shelton Shop Road was traveling west on Route 610 near Rockhill Church Road about 7:30 a.m. Sunday when the right side tires on the truck ran into the shoulder. The engine began to fishtail, crossed into the eastbound lane of and then turning to the right. The vehicle went off the roadway, down an embankment striking trees, said Stafford fire and rescue Chief Joseph Cardello. No one was injured. A portion of Route 610 was closed for three hours. It was raining at the time of the crash on the two-lane, narrow road. The fire truck sustained “considerable” damage. The Stafford sheriff’s office assisted with the investigation and traffic control. The Virginia Department of Transportation was called to repair the road, added Cardello. Authorities reopened the road about 10:30 a.m.
