Albemarle County Fire Rescue responded to a structure fire on Laurel Park Lane at about 3:42 a.m. on Thursday.
First responders reported seeing thick and heavy smoke coming from the townhome.
The fire forced nearby residents out of their home.
One resident, who didn't want to be identified, say she was shocked.
"It feels very surreal and honestly I have never been through something like this before and I have lived in townhouses and apartment complexes before and it's absolutely surreal," she said. "It makes you realize in complexes like this how vulnerable you are but very, very thankful to the sheriff and fire department."
Residents were able to return back to their home, according to fire crews.
One person was transported to UVA Hospital.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Albemarle County Office of the Fire Marshal.
