One person is being treated for injuries that are not life-threatening after a vehicle went off the road near Philpott Dam in Franklin County, the Franklin County Department of Public Safety said Monday, June 29.
The FCDPS responded to a call around 8 p.m. near Philpott Dam to find a car partially submerged in the Smith River on Monday night, according to FCDPS.
It had gone down a 20 ft. embankment and hit a tree, which left it partially submerged in the river.
The Franklin County Fire and Operations Captain on the scene reported that there were six people in the car, three children and three adults. All but one adult was able to escape the vehicle, the captain reported.
They were able to get that person out of the vehicle in about an hour and a half.
That person was airlifted to Roanoke Memorial Trauma Center.
