This weekend marked a major anniversary for the Concord Volunteer Fire Department (CVFD), which celebrated 60 years in service Sunday afternoon.
Department members and their friends and family members and many others from the community gathered in CVFD’s new annex, which has been in use for less than a year. A ribbon-cutting for the annex took place in conjunction with the anniversary celebration. Speakers reflected on the history of the department, which has grown into a well-respected agency since it was founded in 1961.
Past Chief and current CVFD President Jerame Edwards opened the ceremony, calling CVFD one of the best departments in the area. He also addressed the department’s current members, saying: “It is our responsibility to keep this department going for another 60 years and more.”
