A fire reportedly caused by an unattended grill did significant damage in Albemarle County on Saturday, destroying a structure and impacting multiple acres of forest.
According to the Albemarle County Department of Fire Rescue, its firefighters responded to the 2400 block of Old Lynchburg Road just before 5 p.m. on Saturday, April 13.
The first of these units reportedly arrived within fifteen minutes and found an outbuilding consumed by fire. Once the fire was extinguished, crews at the scene determined the structure was a total loss. Additionally, the fire impacted about two acres of nearby forest.
No one was injured as a result of the fire.
According to the department, investigators with the county Fire Marshal’s Office determined the fire was caused by an unattended charcoal grill.
