At the Lebanon Volunteer Fire Department, Chief John McCoy says his firefighters always prepare for the worst. Chief McCoy said, "and we feel like if we prepare for that, we should be able to handle ourselves."
So in March of 2023 when a call came out about an apartment fire with people trapped inside, his guys were ready. "We had quite a bit of fire showing when we pulled up, so we knew we had to be in a hurry," said LVFD firefighter Dan Bush.
Bush was on the second truck that arrived to the scene.
Bush said, "Chief or somebody yelled, said get a ladder we got somebody in the window." He added, "the nearest ladder truck to us was in Abingdon, so that took them about 45 minutes to get here. And unfortunately, we just have to use what we've got to deal with some of these situations."
Bush grabbed the ladder, springing into action.
