Firefighters put out brush fire near Smith Mountain Lake

Local firefighters worked together Saturday to put out a brush fire burning near Smith Mountain Lake. According to the Huddleston Volunteer Fire Department, crews were dispatched Saturday afternoon to Rosewood Lane for the report of a brush fire in the woods. The first crew at the scene was the Smith Mountain Lake Volunteer Fire Department, but they were soon joined by first responders from Moneta and Saunders to help. "The fire was contained by personnel using rakes and leafblowers to create a fire line around the perimeter. An extensive mop up was conducted to ensure that the fire was extinguished," HVFD said. The following units responded: Brush 7A, Attack 7, Fireboat 11-5, Unit 11, Brush 10, Brush 82, Brush 83, and Tanker 8.
